Q&A
Q: MONÉT MERCHAND, first and foremost, congratulations on your recent international recognition. How does it feel to see your music being featured across the globe, including Japan, France, Germany, and even West African markets?
MONÉT MERCHAND: Truly appreciated, thank you! It’s surreal and incredibly humbling. For me, music has always been about connection and reaching the masses, and now seeing it actually reach audiences across continents shows that emotion and storytelling are universal. MONÉT MERCHAND achieved global recognition independently of traditional Hollywood gatekeepers, breaking through without relying on conventional industry systems.
Q: Your latest single, Kokoro, is gaining international traction. What inspired it, and how does it reflect your artistic identity?
MONÉT MERCHAND: Kokoro is about global emotional transparency, meaningful rituals and engagement, connection, love, discipline, and resilience. I wanted a song that could carry intimacy and strength to be rooted for generations to come, while reflecting my personal growth and universal emotion. It’s a sonic bridge between pop sensibility and my cinematic depth, central to my artistic identity. Kokoro is my baby, my heart, and the soul of my creative process. It is sacred, spiritual — a gift from above. I’m so proud of my art and excited for the world to experience it. Being received globally in this way is beyond a dream come true.
Q: You’re featured on the Netflix series Angela soundtrack. How did that opportunity come about, and what does it mean for your career?
MONÉT MERCHAND: Angela is very special and close to my heart. Being featured on Netflix programming was a perfect alignment of vision and energy. When the producers approached me, I knew I wanted to contribute something cinematic and emotionally resonant, something deeply special and dear to my Kokoro. Soundtracks give a song an entirely new life — it becomes part of a story, my story, and that storytelling elevates both the music and the series.
As a Fly Hispanic, Latina, Sephardic Ladino Chica from New York, my culture means everything. I get emotional thinking about the embrace from my Latin community, who have welcomed my music and opened doors to the beginning of my career and its longevity. I am beyond elated that Angela chose me to be part of a globally recognized, award-winning Netflix series. This masterpiece has become a staple in shaping the start of my career, living forever in people’s minds, hearts, and memories. I’m forever indebted to my Spanish roots, Latin community, and I thank Japan, China, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Asia, and India for welcoming my Kokoro, my music, the spirit, and spoken word into your daily lives and homes.
Q: You’ve built your career as an independent artist and label owner. What’s your approach to breaking into multiple international markets?
MONÉT MERCHAND: It’s intentional, methodical, and creative. We are a label, so we think as such but with agility — activating territories strategically, leveraging digital and traditional media, and creating multiple “moments” that each tell part of the story. Every international placement is more than a spin; it’s a statement about global reach, brand presence, and brand synergy.
Q: Fashion, aesthetics, and visual identity seem central to your brand. How do these elements integrate with your music?
MONÉT MERCHAND: Music is an experience, a portal, not just a sound. Visuals, fashion, and even my color choices (palettes) are extensions of the narrative. Everything communicates, from stage presence to album art. I want every element to feel iconic and intentional, as I AM in and of all my works.
Q: How do you see your music influencing international audiences beyond just entertainment?
MONÉT MERCHAND: I know my music inspires a sense of possibility. Beyond entertainment, it’s about encouraging people to embrace their individuality, feel empowered, and connect with emotions they might not have accessed before. I want audiences worldwide to feel seen, understood, and elevated — and for that energy to ripple across cultures. The Ancestors, my ancestors, are pleased, and I will keep honoring them throughout my vessel, my art, in this lifetime.
Q: Finally, what can fans expect next from MONÉT MERCHAND?
MONÉT MERCHAND: Bigger stories, bolder visuals, and international campaigns that bridge music, fashion, and culture. I’m focused on creating a legacy that feels timeless and global, while staying true to the independent spirit that defines my career. I love fashion, and I truly want collaborations that align with my aura, vibes, and status. Its time and it finally clicked, and now the world will catch up — Very soon it will all make sense.
